Another really difficult one, I thought. I had a blank in the NW, and had to put it down and come back to it later (though I did wonder why - most of these weren't the hardest ones!)

Well I am very relieved to see what you write chrise. The whole right hand side is a puzzle to me and also 9D and 1D etc etc etc.!, Thought I had 11A with the holy books being the first five of the OT, but not so sure now. I will battle on.

Feel the same as the rest of you. Only managed 5 answers so far but 11 a is one of them. The defininition is "cool" and the holy books are N T for New Testament Around the rest of the clue. Hope this helps without giving too much away.

This was one of the difficult ones. It's an Italian lake I hadn't heard of. American is standard, after a word for "pub" with its first letter missing.

The name comes from the Greek word which means "without birds", Thanks Chrise it was simple once you put me on the right path.

It's "collar" in the police sense. The wordplay is read upwards.
