Ab, I thought of dialling, my S came from, clue
6d Minor route for traffic, 6 ltrs
I have, ?y?a?s, i put bypass, that is where I got my S from for the begining of 26a,

Could it be byroad? Not sure if a bypass is a minor route for traffic whereas a byroad is.

I wondered that too, AB, but it needs two letters to be wrong.

Is there such a thing as a "bypath"?

Snaps is better than shots, I agree - which letters are definite?

Shots, byroad and dialling all seem kosher to me.
