Thanks jazzgirl and mamya. You obviously have much better education, word knowledge, dictionaries, thesauruses, and anagram finders than I have.
I suspect this time that I will not be the only one who need direct answers.

I too am finding it hard this week - I managed last week without recourse to the forum.
I usually find that I am behind everyone else, but can read the posts and get help that way.
It has worked this time (I had about 5 that I solved with help from the forum) but now I am left with just one
3d: Face facts, sheep's gone over old coin. I have -e- r-a-. (I noted TEG from an earlier post).
Plese put me out of my misery.

Yikes!! Just looking at this thread after struggling a little with No 45 and yes it was a bit obscure, when I realised I'd not even looked at 44. Anyone know where it is? I'll have to go and look through the recycling and No 46 is about to drop through the letter box!! It's been a busy couple of weeks. Who said retirement was a time to relax?

Okay! Have done most of it with a bit of a struggle but still have two little ones left.
6d Open university with new ceiling (5) I have ?N?A? and am totally flummoxed.
19d Show indifference to cropped cardigan (5) I have SHRUG but what has that to do with a cardigan?
