Hi friends.

Because I have to take a friend to hospital tomorrow, I tried to post my "5" tonight. Unfortunately, as with my solutions last week, I was not allowed to post by the new safeguards Ash has put in place.

I'm losing heart about now and am thinking of packing it in for good. I found it most frustrating.

I've emailed Ash/Norah but had an instant reply saying Ash is away for a while and advising I send my email to a different email address. I've done this.

:Looks like no "5" this week - at least.

Jolan, please don't give up on your thread! It's far too difficult for me to participate in (!) but I know it gives a lot of pleasure to others.
I think there are ways and means round the problems that have arisen from the new (necessary) restrictions imposed to deal with the recent "invasions."
I'm sure someone will know - whether it be Admin or a forum contributor - maybe someone will be able to offer you some advice tomorrow .
Hang in there!

Thank you Elle. What a lovely person.

Unfortunately, if I cannot post my puzzle, what am I to do?

I've emailed As but received the following email

Are you trying to copy and paste your puzzle, Jolan? From what I've gathered from problems others have had in this respect, I think the difficulty is arising from punctuation? I think you need to delete punctuation from your post and then type it in afresh after you've copied and pasted your puzzle.
This precaution is a deterrent against the "invasion" of spam that has been coming onto the forum.
I apologise if I've read this wrongly and am giving you ill advice! but worth a shot?

I think you are correct Elle. Ash explained this to me when I was unable to copy/paste and post my solutions last week. Whatever he then did (and he advised me to try again) I was able to post the solutions successfully by my usual method copy/paste/post

Unfortunately, I've always compiled my crossies in Word and then copied and pasted them to my thread. I'd find it too much hassle to do otherwise. If I cannot continue to use my preferred method I'll retire gracefully. I've had a very good "innings" and have enjoyed working with those I call my friends. I'm off to beddie-pies now and will be away all day tomorrow.

Sweet dreams

Dear Jolan

That would be very sad, but I sense 5 @ 5 is becoming a burden.

If you send me the Word document I would be more than happy to post it for you. Norah is very kind at passing on emails and we need only bother her the once. If you send the solutions at the same time I will post them later if necessary.

While you were absent over the summer the Forum got taken over by spam and was unusable.

Very best wishes

I know what you mean, Jolan; a few weeks ago I almost went out of my mind trying to post the Peer Review results. Your regulars (and friends) would certainly miss your Tuesday treat. Perhaps we could give you our email addresses through the site, or if Les40 has your address we could ask him to give them to you. I'm sure we'd all miss being able to converse, but we'd at least still be able to enjoy solving your wonderful clues.

I tried to post the above message over the course of several hours last night but couldn't get onto the site; I tried different browsers on my laptop and iPhone. This morning I was able to get on but couldn't log in; I've just succeeded. After this week's Peer Review I too might pack it in; it's just too frustrating.

OK, so I was able to log in but it wouldn't let me submit...

I too would miss your 5 jolan. I can very rarely solve any and feel particularly clever if I get one. The solutions and explanations always make interesting reading and I can now recognise a subtractive anagram at 50 paces thanks to you.

This is the first time I have been able to post today due to virus hitting my computer yesterday.
I really hope Ash can sort out all the problems, as I would be downhearted to see the end of your brilliant clues, Jolan. Sending very best wishes x
