Hi will someone please explain why the popular answer to 10 ac is GAGA rather than NANA (an idiot/as in off one's nana)

It's A GAG backwards but it's not Mephisto it's the cryptic. I really need help with 2 d in the Mephisto. AQ soldier can start to panic - troubled NCO abandoned . !2 (2 words) believe second word is HERO.

Anagram of A SOLDIER CAN + P (start to Panic) = LANCE PRISADO
