I can seldom parse Dean Mayer's clues - sorry!

Thanks Malone - I think some of these clues are very poor - and that's not just because I can't crack them

Island is ATOLL and domestic (servant) is AYAH
Put together gives AYATOLLAH - authority

Sandwich is SUB with IT and O(ld) gives SUBITO - old fashioned way of saying now
