Thanks KT. My problem was I thought that was one of the twelve so I would appear to have mislaid one, very careless of me!

Ah, I have discovered the thematic nature of the deletions (which this margin is too narrow to contain.) Not exactly overwhelmed, but an OK puzzle.

All finished apart from 17A. Any chance of hint please? I also can't see what the 'consistent adjustment' is or the 'theme' of what's removed so, again, any hints please to put me out of my misery. Thanks

The diver would be looking for oysters (but not for eating).

As for the theme, think abbreviations.

All done except 18a which I am stumped on - assume it must need letters removed ... also I can make no sense of the letters I've removed from other clues - and seem to be missing one - unless it's 28d and my answer is wrong.

18A is one of the 12, as is 28D. Like you (and despite kilgore trout's kind hints) I am also baffled by the letters removed. Frustrating!

28dn is one of the 12.

You're removing a chunk of text and replacing it with its abbreviation.

Oh lordy! Yes, I see it now, thanks. I'd only been considering the actual letters removed, not them in the context of their surrounding letters. Ah....now I can relax for another month.

Sorry but I feel like the Eurozone leaders ... this is all Greek to me.
