A further bit of information that might be useful is in the hidden message. Assuming 'clues' really means entries, there are ten known entries that may contain one of the highlighted letters to give the thematic title; hopefully all of them do. One of them is only four letters long. It might help to narrow down the search.

"Clues" means clues, not entries. The highlighted entry is in the bottom row, which should help indicate which "John" the puzzle is about.

Think about the last 10 words one would hear while waiting on the highlighted entry. The letters are not in contiguous cells! but they are in cells that are symmetric around an axis.
