Hello everybody,

would appreciate help in parsing the following:

6d Bananas provided in cereal - bit strange (11)

Think answer is 'certifiable' (Anag cereal +bit and if = provided)

But what am I looking for? Bananas or Strange? Both words could mean anagram! Does one of those words have a second meaning that I don't know?

Bananas can mean mad and therefore certifiable.

I think it's much more likely that "bananas" is intended as the definition & the rest is wordplay --- but what does it matter? Your answer is correct anyway!

Well, just checked the dictionary and it seems that one meaning of 'certifiable' was unknown to me - ie can be certified as insane' - I only knew 'can be guaranted' type of meaning

I have therefore increased my vocabulary by one word!

Anyhow, Greedy Kite and Poole Pirate, thank you both .
