Got them all, thanks to Forum and Chambers Thesaurus. Everyman is getting more possible to do - I think it's partly a question of figuring out how the new setter constructs his clues. Several I can't parse though:

26a. Retired, overwhelmed by change.(8) PRETENCE

3d. Nothing upset firm line followed by new president. (7) LINCOLN

18d. Unknown book penned by sailor? Correct (7) OBSCURE

All ideas appreciated.

26a ret inside losse change/pence

3d nil (nothing) reversed + co(company/firm) + l(line) +n(new)

typo - pence = loose change

os = sailor/ordinary seaman
b = book
can't see the rest yet....
