I came to this puzzle late and have only just managed to complete the initial grid. I cannot even understand the first instruction. How can you turn the NW quadrant to SE? And is a quadrant the 6 x 6 part of the gris at top left? Any help would be welcomed.

Right quadrant. NW to SE is a 180 degree turn and then migrate SE.

I think I've finished bar the anagram but can some kind soul tell me what the final grid entries of 33a, 4d and 13a are so I can confirm with mine.

You don't actually need to ignore the initial letters of the unpaired clues' answers, as these 6 clues appear at the numbers that correspond to 2 clues (one paired and one not). Just write out each entry's initial against the numbers 1 to 36, A, L, E, ......A, S and you have the letters to fill the NW quadrant.
