Finished, but don't get the title. Is it possible to give nudge without spoiling puzzle for others?

Being a newbie to this particular crossword I was unaware "Triton" was a regular setter and as such "from" instead of "by" is relevant.

Thanks binge. I wondered why there was no setters name- or appeared not to be.

So VERY frustrating: I have the theme, three hidden "linked items" with their small alterations, all 31 superfluous letters and the three "discrete groups" - two not groups at all of course - they spell out; and in fact the entire grid completed all except 3 cells (two crossing lights, one cell shared) in the bottom left, having no bearing on, and unaffected by, the theme and alterations. But I just cannot for the life of me see how or why to complete those.

SO: please can someone help me out of my misery? 38A, ?A?S, looks very much as if it wants to be DAIS (platform, I'm assuming, is the definition?); but I can't see why or how it works. And 35D is ?N?T, or if I'm right about DAIS, then ?NIT, but either way... stumped entirely. Which, after sailing through the rest, is really infuriating!

Nansen, 35 D is Unit. You haven't given the clues and I no longer have the paper, but I think the answer involved taking various letters out of 'platinum', leaving 'unit'. The other one was Dais, but can't remember any more than that.

35d is definitely UNIT. The altered definition is "Maybe rad" which is a radiation unit. The wordplay is a composite anagram, but rather clumsily structured. UNIT + AM + LP can be jumbled to make PLATINUM. 38a must be DAIS from the presumed definition, platform, but I don't see how the clue works either.

Nansen, following my previous reply, DA IS needed to make RING (band) DARING.
