Hello, Elle,
If it is "tor" and "tore", to me they are different.
The "o" is pronounced differently.
How say you?

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I pronounce the "o" in " tor" differently from that in "tore".
And what about "whey" and "way", do you agree with me that there is a "wh" sound in the former?
I do not pronounce them the same - similar, but not the same!
Now...... "Massacre".......
I have finished the chapter!
Where to start.....I am very impressed with Mr. M - he has written about this is the most incredibly explicit way.
You can see through the eyes - and mind - and heart - of each individual involved ...and follow his /her thinking throughout, can't you?
Be it right or wrong....he has set it out for the reader.
The outcome was inevitable.
And can you remember the " US editors" section?
This was essential to the chapter, I thought?
But it is becoming difficult to remember that while the historical facts are true, the storyline is fiction.....
That the "tale " is a means to an end to illustrate the historical trail.
Did you find this?
I am getting personally wrapped up in the future of the protagonists..........

Hello, Elle!
Yes, an emphatic "wh" in whey, for me!
It is a relief you like Michener and Centennial!
He creates great characters.
I liked Elly, but we do not know how she would have developed.
But, there are others ahead for you.
RJ Poteet, Jim Lloyd, Finlay Perkin, Clemma Zendt, and many more.
I have a vague recollection that Winston Churchill's mother gets a mention, too.
All the cowboys. It is good stuff.
Assembling a gang of cowboys to bring cattle North, following the trail of Charles Goodnight (a real person).
You seem to be well on with the book, anyway.

Good evening, Rusty!
And I am assuming that the present characters - those still left alive after the recent dire events - will be continuing throughout the thread of the book?
I thought Captain Mercy a gallant man, and his wife Lisette a strong woman!
And as I said, I liked the way James Michener dealt with the "feedback" from those who requisitioned him to research the history and set it out clearly.
But you say there are NO "US editors" in any of his other books?
I am wondering how he will deal with other "historical "stories" without that aspect?
You will have to be thinking of which book I should read next(please?) ?
But a break now, whilst I catch up with "Eggheads"......

Hello, Pigale!
No, I have not been asleep all day!
You are right in that I have been very busy!
And tomorrow is going to follow the same road......
How about you?
What have you been up to?

Hello, Elle,
The characters stay the same, but more enter the tale, Potato Brumbaugh, for instance, another very strong character.
Also, their children, and grandchildren.
There are no other US editors that I can think of.
He spins his tales the same way though, and in every book the research is mighty impressive.
Your next book?
Well, Chesapeake is good.
Starts in the 16th Century, has strong women characters.
Two, I remember are, Rosalind Janney, (she hangs a pirate captain) and Ruth Brinton, a Quaker, who suffered for her religion..
Also in Chesapeake, there is Onk Or, a Canada goose, another strong character, who I liked.
Lots of religion, slavery, ship building, etc in it.
If you like Centennial you should take to Chesapeake.
Or Alaska, a favourite of mine.
Poland is excellent, and of course, his books on the Pacific.
Have a look on Amazon or Goodreads and see what you think.
I will have read them, so could offer an opinion, too.

Good morning, Rusty!
We have another nice, slightly warmer day!
I have already been out walking with the dog, and later plan to go over to my daughter's.
She has asked me to go with her to attend a school meeting about the "Curriculum" this afternoon.
We are thinking that this is simply to inform the parents about the work the children will be covering during the oncoming school year.
After that, at 4 pm, we are going to "inspect" an After School Club.
When our daughter goes back to work at the end of November, she will need for BB to go to both a Breakfast Club and an After School club for three days of the week.
His school does have a Breakfast Club, so no problem there - she or her husband can drop him off about 8am on her/ his way to work.
But there is no After School Club...........so instead she has to find one that does "pickups" from the local schools and takes the children to the Club's own premises.
This is such a one that we are going to look at today after school finishes.
Fingers crossed that it will prove satisfactory!
Baby will go four days a week to the nursery that BB previously attended.
(Daughter is only going to work for four days, with one of those days being working from home)
Life is complicated!
Yes, I will study Amazon and Goodreads and get back to you on that..........I want to order another book in good time before I finish this one.
What is your weather like? Any plans for your day?

Good afternoon, Elle,
Grand start to Autumn up here!
Beautiful day!
Hope you get on fine at school etc.
Having a canny day.
Even done the crossword already.
Then went for a longer walk than usual.
I see on BBC News that CJ has been lifted at Heathrow.
There was a European warrant out for his arrest.
Daphne will be horrified!

Good evening, Rusty!
I have finally arrived home.
What a busy day I have had!
But all went well.......
We have found a suitable After School Club for BB.
A member of the Club staff will collect him - plus any other children from his school bound for the Club - and take him to their premises in the grounds of a local church .
His dad will later pick him up on his way home from work.
It couldn't be better!
It is such a relief for my daughter to have it all sorted!
So what is this about CJ?
I haven't see the News yet today.........what has he done, to be arrested at the airport?
Yes, Daphne will be upset...she likes CJ!
Just going to get some dinner.........I haven't eaten since breakfast!
