Morning Chris,

I did not see them - it must have been when I got disconnected, I did not see the crash live; I only saw the 'replays' they showed several times just after.

Good morning Rusty,

Thank you for letting me know, I had not listened to any news yet.
Truly awful! There must have been hundreds holiday makers of all nationality watching this usually beautiful firework over the Med.

They mention 83 dead and many injured - I wonder what the final count will be unfortunately.

Where are we safe nowadays !

Hello, Pigalle.
And on Bastille Day, too.
Even more of an atrocity.
I'd imagine the death toll will go higher.
They are saying 84 just now.
Dreadful!

Apologies, Pigale!
I included an extra "l" in your name in my previous post.
A senior moment!

Actually, it is the proper spelling of the famous Place - I mispelt it on purpose so as not to use the name of the Sculptor who gave the place its name !

Hello, Pigale,
I am watching the Open Golf Championship on my television.
On the course, the French flag is flying at half mast.

Good morning, Rusty!
What a terrible thing to happen in Nice!
I read about it first on the computer, when I switched on after I got up this morning.
All those poor people - they must have been so terrified.
And the death toll continues to rise.......
No one is safe anywhere.......
I fell asleep yesterday after flopping down with exhaustion on the sofa!
I think I shall patent my granddaughter as a cure for insomnia!
Instructions as follows......
"Spend four hours with aforementioned child - a full night's sleep guaranteed"!
(She is delightful really!)
I hope your cycling is less traumatic today. Thank you for the explanations.
As far as I could tell in my very limited capacity as an observer, the decision to let Chris Froome keep the yellow jersey was the right one?
Adam Yates thought so anyway.
You are watching golf today?

Hello, Pigale!
I am so sorry about these terrible terrorist attacks that keep happening in your country.
You must all feel devastated.
I fear this will spread to other places fairly soon.

I just want to add my sympathy to the others. My goodness, how absolutely terrible. I was there not so long ago, on that beautiful open space near the sea with the water spouts where people can play and wonderful sculptures for the same reason.
I read that children were thrown to safety, wives killed next to their husbands, whole families gone. Nothing yet about the perpetrators.
Another dreadful day

Good morning, Elle.
Yes, a dreadful occurence at Nice.
How on Earth do you prevent these things happening?
Granddaughters are wonderful.
You have years of enjoyment ahead of you!
I do think the Froome decision was probably correct.
I am happy with it, given that motor bikes and excitable crowds are part of this racing game.
I just wonder what would have happened had the crash been closer to the finish, and Froome ran across the line with no bike? Would they disqualify him?
On the flat stages the riders have carried their bikes across the line, after crashes.
You never know with the commissaires!
There was a slightly similar incident in the Gent-Wevelgem race earlier this year when there was a crash and a motor bike hit a rider. Unfortunately, in that case, the rider, Antoine Demoitie, was killed.
Today is a time trial, so hopefully, less dramatic incidents!
Yes, I have the golf on. Looks a bit dreich at Troon!
