Rusty, I am with you on Maria Sharapova. She has been around too long, has made too much money out of the sport to come out with 'ooh, I didn't look at the new list'. The question of drugs has been very prominent in many sports over the last decade - the players all know how important it is to be clean and also to be seen to be clean. I obviously know nothing about MS's medical problems, but I do know that these drugs - which do help performances - have been added to the list of banned substances because the governing body has observed the steep rise in players 'needing' these drugs.

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I regret to say that I think you are right.....but I do so hate it when a tennis player or an athlete falls from grace!
Maybe because these are the two sports that I mostly follow.
I'm with you though on the "panic room" personality!!! I should love to see her get her "just desserts"!
I have been watching Eggheads.
There was a question today in the Arts and Books category about one of my favourite authors...... Michael Connelly.
I have just finished reading one of his books.
(Incidentally, the Challenger couldn't answer the question!)
It has been very cold today.....how far did you go for your walk?
I think now that the ground is generally becoming less "poggy", we might extend our walks again to the fields and woods - to some extent, we have been sticking recently to places where there at least some semblance of paths!
I have seen pictures of the Northern Lights but have never been lucky enough to see them "in the flesh"!
You are most fortunate.
Has your granddaughter turned today up to help you install your photographs on your new tablet?

Hello, Elle!
Maria's performance was staged to perfection.
Wonder who the script writer was?
Why her announcing it and not the tennis authorities??
I liked her, too, you know.
I walked for about forty minutes.
My granddaughter and me shared an American Sizzler pizza for tea! Very nice, too!
She "fixed" the photo apps and installed an Alto email box.
She also approves of the decor and carpets.
The Northern Lights are something else indeed!

Hi, Rusty!
I had three crosswords to do today! but I found the Times 15 x 15 more difficult today than I did yesterday's puzzle.
Was that just me?
The Spoonerism one gave me a bit of trouble! It became obvious because of the crossers but I hadn't heard the term before.
I'm glad your granddaughter and you had a good time - and that she approves of the refurbishments!
Now what is an Alto email box?

Good morning, Elle!
You are away ahead of me!
I only do one crossword each day.
They do vary a bit on difficulty.
Depends on what is going through the setter's mind, I suppose.
What he/she knows and what you don't!
Spoonerisms are an acquired taste, which I do not have!
I have uninstalled the Alto.
It is an app for email.
It replaces my BT email box which I found to be cumbersome.
I find texting far easier.
Have emails had their day?

Good Morning Everyone,

Good morning Rusty - Do you get up that early every day ?

Could you explain to me what is meant by 'spoonerisms' ? For sure I have come across them without knowing the term?

Raining here and still cool and windy. Due for very nice from week-end onwards

Good Morning, Rusty!
Fell dreich here! We got soaked on our walk! I don't think it is supposed to improve either!
If you've been for your paper and have read what the Times has to say about Maria - you will be even more disgusted with her!
I have lost all (potential) hope of its being a mistake, or an oversight, on her part!
Interestingly , Serena is "sorry" for her! Currying reciprocal sympathy and support for when it happens to her?
"Have emails had their day?" you ask.........
Goodness, I sincerely hope not! I carry out all my correspondence by email!
Texting is fine if you are only saying the minimum - but if you have a lot to convey, then I prefer emailing.
And some friends and I talk on and off throughout the day by email........just like we are talking on here!
And emailing is used such a lot in business, I cannot see it losing its popularity - although perhaps it may become less used as a social medium?
What news of Victoria?

Hello, Pigale!
Raining here, too!
Now.......
A spoonerism is an error in speech or a deliberate play on words in which corresponding consonants and vowels, are switched between two words in a phrase.
The term "Spoonerism" is named after the Reverend William Archibald Spooner, a Warden of New College, Oxford, who was notorious for making this mistake this mistake.
A well known example often quoted is "The Lord is a shoving leopard" instead of "The Lord is a loving shepherd."
I hope this helps explain?
