This is the thing.
Anna will be in London for the World Championships from 2nd to 6th of March riding for Australia. I can't wait!
But it is a fortnight before Cheltenham so very doubtful if it would fit into Anna's schedule. Her and Vic were opposites.
Anna a typical sprinter. Powerfully built.
Victoria very slim. But they had battles! Think there was mutual hatred between them for a long time.
Seen the two of them scrapping away and sailing over the handlebars. Sprint cycling is not for shrinking violets!
I imagine that Jess Varnish will be taking Anna on, in London.
Jess is good, but she is not Victoria...not yet, anyway.
I think you would have to be Scots to get Runrig.
At least half of their songs are in Gaelic.
They started out as a dance band.

I have heard so many differing verdicts / opinions about Richard Hauptmann! I know that Ludovic Kennedy's book absolves him of the kidnapping and murder of the Lindenburgh child.
But there have been other more recent authors who adhere to the original theories of his being guilty........
Whom to believe?
I don't know a lot about the situation? How deeply have you looked into this? I know you like to get at the facts of the matter.
Has there ever been any "official" retraction of the initial "guilty" verdict?

I have been to exhibitions at Somerset House, but have never visited 2, Temple Place.
Is the latter building worth a visit in itself? I am thinking that I have heard it is a beautiful building and worth a visit as such?
What were the two exhibitions that you went to see?
I might put them on my list as potentials for when Sue and I next to up to London!
I hope you didn't get fined for parking on arrival back ?

Bit snowy this morning, but not lying.
I have only scratched the surface of the Lindbergh case but am convinced of Hauptmann's innocence.
He was treated very unfairly.
The doctors who examined him in custody said he had been beaten with a hammer by the police in a failed attempt to make him confess. A man who was registered as legally blind, was a prosecution witness who stated that he saw Hauptmann near the Lindbergh house, and in tests famously identified a flower pot as a woman's hat.
Circumstantial evidence and a circus of a trial convicted Hauptmann. He was railroaded to the electric chair.
Five minutes before he was executed he was offered a deal by the New Jersey prosecutor. "Name your accomplices and your sentence will he commuted." (The Governor of New Jersey believed he was innocent, and was desperately trying to find a way to commute the sentence.)
Hauptmann told them what he had said all along.
"I know nothing about it. I am innocent."
I am a sceptic about authority.
I believe we are lied to consistently, by authorities.
Now, off to my butcher to get something for tea.

I have yet to do today's Times Cryptic 15 x 15, but will have a look at it shortly. I finished the QC early this morning.
Got stuck on one clue - could see the parsing once I had the solution but would never have reached that on my own!
How are the girls? It must be difficult for them juggling Uni and work?

No, just flurries of snow.
Fine day now.
I bypassed the butcher and went to the bakers and am having tattie scones for tea.
Girls are fine.
Working hard.
They tell me they are in charge of me when Mum and Dad go to the Isle of Madeira on holiday!
My oldest son is going to Kent on Saturday. He is on a course but I cannot mind the name of the place. He has been several times.
My crossword is in the bin.

Madeira is a fabulous place - both sea and snowy mountain on this island. Good Portuguese influence but a lot of Brits there as well.
February is a nice time of the year to go for a type of flower carnival (if I remember rightly).
I went in January and missed the flowers by a couple of weeks. Had a great time though

Yes, you mentioned that your son and his wife were going on holiday, leaving you in the care of the girls! I am sure they will "spoil" you! They may even let you pay when you go to the Pine Cone?
I hope your other son enjoys both his course and staying in Kent. It is one of my favourite counties - of course I might just be a bit prejudiced!
I'm halfway thought the xword....not finding it all that easy..... been reading my book, though, in between efforts.
I also have been reading up (on Google for lack of other sources) about the Lindberg case.......what you told me this morning was very enlightening.
I thought I knew something about it, but obviously only the tip of the iceberg..........

Have only just got back from another visit to London booked months ago, to visit the Art Deco building of the Freemasons. It is all a lot less secret now - we went into the central temple and they have a great museum and library. I am not remotely interested in their activities but I did want to see the building, as it is complete and unchanged except for a very few damn 'elf and safety stuff. We had a nice lunch prearranged in a pub and then some free time which I used to visit St Giles in the Fields, which was were some of my family were baptised and presumably buried. It was open, and empty.

One exhibition yesterday was "The Museum of Innocence", of which I could make no sense whatever, though I have been to (and got lost in) Istanbul. If someone collects a door handle, light switch etc from an abandoned room where he once met his love, what interest is that to anyone else?
Two Temple Place is another matter; it is a staggeringly beautiful building inside. If they are open in the evening you can sit over wine in the café, it's like a private club. The exhibition is about Egyptians- since being in Cairo not much Egyptian can match that. But interesting none-the-less. I recommend the building totally- and the Freemason's place is free and has amazing Art Deco loos!

That is two of out three places that you visited to which I haven't been before!
I like the sound of Temple Place.... I think we might go there on our next visit to London. As it is so close to Somerset House it might be possible to fit in a visit to both, as you did.
I have been to the Egyptian Room at the British Museum, on one of the "London Walks". I found that of interest.
Have you ever been on any of the "Walks"? they are good value for money - the talks en route are very informative .

I have been having trouble with the "Server Error" message flashing up on my Hudl again - it's been playing up all evening.
I tried switching it on an off but that makes no difference.
So I hit on the idea of typing up a query about it on Google..... I have come up with loads of information and advice!
I don't know how helpful any of it will prove to be, as there is such a lot to sift through............but we shall see..........
I may find a relevant answer!
