Ellie, thanks for the update on your Red Button. Does your remote control allow you to access the RB channels by using their numbers? The extra tennis channels were, I think, 301 and 302 - I could type those in, rather than press the RB. (I've just checked my Freeview and got on to a classical concert, by typing 601 - the on-screen info says 'BBC RB 1').

Malone, thank you for your input. It is very kind of you to go to so much trouble to advise me ( my husband is worse than I am at this sort of technology!)
Your suggestion of keying in the number instead of pressing the red button works for one of the channels you suggested. 301 gave me 'Springwatch' this morning which is scheduled on the Red Button selection (I checked on Google)
302 says the channel is 'scrambled or unavailable'!Hopefully, this 301 channel will give tennis when Wimbledon comes.
It's giving various sports throughout the day today!

A glorious day - blue skies , sunshine, very warm already. How is it in your neck of the woods?
Yes, we can manage fine without the car; we just have to walk everywhere! or catch a tram or a bus!
We walked to the nearest (big) park this morning with the dog. It adds about forty-five minutes onto the morning walk so not too bad.
I think Malone has solved my red button problem by providing the number of the appropriate channel which works when I key it in! So simple when you know what to do ( my husband is worse than I am at this sort of modern technology , so no help there!)

Today I have to decide whether to watch the Men's unfinished tennis match from yesterday, or the Athletics fourth Diamond League. Mmmmm......

My viewing has worked out well. I decided to watch the semi final of the Men's tennis first.... despite Andy Murray's regaining control to take the fourth set, Djokovic soon dispatched him in the fifth to win the match.
So I was then able to watch the remainder of the fourth Diamond League.
And there is more Athletics tomorrow when it's the Sainsbury's Grand Prix in Birmingham!
How is /was the Derby? Did you have a preferred favourite?
I'm just been waiting to see the end of the women's tennis before taking out the dog. I was all set to go when it looked as though Serena would win in two straight sets, but Lucy Safarova has now taken the second set... the dog may just have to play ball in the garden this afternoon! Too exciting to leave !

Not being on the forum as often lately meant that I didn't see the 'offending' thread, but I would just like to add that I don't really see why there is a problem, it's a simple matter of scrolling past, especially as I believe that the thread content was explicitly titled, so that nobody could doubt that it was not crossword related. One of the things I have always liked about this forum in particular is that there are diversions and 'persiflage' on it, and it has always been (bar a few incidents) a friendly and diverse place. It saddens me that some people would report something like this when there are so many other more pressing things to focus on in this world. As on any forum or social media platform it is quite simple to scroll past something which you are not interested in and I think that deleting diverse threads takes away a little of what made this forum unique.

I believe there were complaints because the 'offending' thread was a long very pleasant conversation between two people. That's the only reason it was deleted.
I saw absolutely no harm in it and completely agree with your comments.
So it seems that now it's 'the more the merrier'!
