HI, Rusty!
Well, it has indeed been a lovely sunny day......
With nary a glimpse of the aforethreatened rain!
I am home again now.......and here to stay until tomorrow.
I had a very nice time with my friend; a good chat, and a delicious lunch.
How about you?
What sort of a day have you had?
Did you watch any of the tennis?

Hello, Elle!
Great day here, too!
And you had a good day out.
Well done!
I have had a good day, except for breaking my watch strap!
Finished my puzzle.
But there is one where I simply don't see the parse for it.
I have not looked at the tennis.
I watched a couple of programmes I had recorded though.

Hi, Rusty!
I am glad that you have had a good day!
A pity about your watch strap breaking.
It's a leather one , isn't it? It should be easy enough to replace?
I must have gone though an awful lot of watch straps.... and batteries...... with my previous watch!
I finally had to replace the watch itself a few months ago!
I have struggled with today's crossword puzzle....
I have four clues unsolved, plus four that I cannot parse!
So not a very successful day for me!
Which clue could you not parse?
Although it is extremely unlikely that I shall be able to help!

Hello, Elle!
I have ordered a new watch on eBay.
My unparsed answer is 6d.
The crossing letters led me to "Solti" for maestro.
But, I am stumped!
My son has just gone home.
Had a nice time, and a good chat!

A friend told me a story about Georg Solti. My friend was dining in a reataurant in Canterbury, and being looked after well. He mentioned to the waiter "I see that Georg Solti is also dining here" - it was a long time before the waiter paid my friend any more attention!

Hi, Rusty!
I hope your new watch arrives soon!
Is it not expensive, though, to replace the entire watch with a new one rather than just buy another strap?
Mind you, my circumstances in this are somewhat different, in that I stick to the "good old watch" because I magnetise watches unless the workings come in a completely resin case!
Such watches are difficult to find...... and so I tend to hang on to what I have for as long as possible!
I am afraid that I, also, cannot parse 6d.
The crossers led me to Georg Solti...but I cannot see the parsing for this.
I have thrown in the towel on this puzzle!
It has defeated me!

Sorry, Chris...I don't get it?

It was actually Sir Georg at another table. My friend had recognised him, but the waiter hadn't. The waiter then fawned on him for the rest of the lunchtime service!

Hello, Elle!
My watch cost £3.98 inc postage, so that is not too bad, I think.
It is the resin strap that breaks on my watch and I get approximately 18 months out of each one before it needs replaced.
Ah, 6d, the setter knows something we don't, it looks like, Elle!
I liked 24a, and I got the Cockney one in 3d.
A good puzzle, I thought!

Hi, Rusty!
Wow, that is an incredibly cheap price!
I pay more than that just for a replacement leather strap on mine.
You obviously have a bargain!
I've just had another look at 24a and I have suddenly got it!
"Amiable"...Am I able?
I'm ashamed to say I cannot see the full parsing for the Cockney one?
I have "barometer" = "it shows the necessary pressure one is under" (def)
But where does the Cockney bit fit in?
Well done you, for getting it!

Oh, I thought it was a joke, Chris...I was looking for the punch line!

Hello, Elle!
My watch is the Casio F-91W.
It has been in production since the 1980's.
There have been many millions produced and it sells all over the world.
The Cockney "in", is (h)ome, surrounded by "barter"/deal.
If a Cockney is "in", he is "(h)ome".
