Rusty, because mistakes are so rare, I was a bit taken aback by today's puzzle. I didn't find it as cohesive as usual, and wondered if it was perhaps from a new setter. If errors creep in regularly my reaction will change!

PS I've just rediscovered the 'joys' of traffic lights, vehicle 'crosswalks'.

Hi, Rusty!
This is what Wikipedia says:
"Drag queens are performance artists, almost always male, who dress in women's clothing and often act with exaggerated femininity and in feminine gender roles with a primarily entertaining purpose. They often exaggerate make-up such as eyelashes for dramatic, comedic or satirical effect."
I would not have known the term, but for Jeremy Vine so describing them.......but they did look very exaggeratedly dressed and made up.
Do you remember Danny la Rue?
Would he have been so classed?
But he was never overly done up as I recall?
He made quite an effective woman!
He did impersonations, though, of famous females, like Marlene Dietrich, Zsa Zsa Gabor and Margaret Thatcher.
I have seen him on television, but never "live" on the stage.

Hello, Malone!
I agree, the racking the brains at impossible clues is not something to look forward to!
When you discovered The Times had changed the clues,
I wondered if the lad who set the Everyman puzzle had jumped ship to The Times!
I'm well used to traffic lights etc now, though sometimes I have to fill in three sets before I can proceed!

Hello, Elle!
I have heard of Danny la Rue, but I do not think I ever saw him?
Did he have a club in London, or am I mixed up?
I remember Stanley Baxter, though.
I thought he was brilliant.
He even did the Queen!
I think Stanley is retired now.

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I think you are right about Danny la Rue having a club somewhere in London....... it is ringing a faint bell.
Yes, I remember Stanley Baxter.
But he is an actor and impressionist.
He must be quite elderly?
In his nineties?

Hello, Elle!
Yes, Stanley was probably not a drag queen.
His TV shows were popular up here.
I have not heard of him in a long time.
What about Boy George?
Is he a drag queen?
Liberace?
Lassie is sitting quietly on the nest.
Wonder if an egg is imminent?

Good morning, Elle!
Lassie has laid her first egg!
I think it happened yesterday evening, and when I saw her sitting quietly on the nest, I think she had already laid her egg.
So, good news from the loch!

Hello, Malone!
You are way ahead of me!
I have not been for my paper yet or looked at the online version.
Glad to hear it's a good one though.
I'll let you know what I think, later!

A Very Good morning to you, Rusty!
Yes, isn't it exciting!
I did not know that Lassie had laid the first egg, until a few minutes ago, when I read your message to me.
But I have since found this; in case you haven't already seen it , here it is.....
A video of Lassie laying the egg at 8.37 last night........

A lovely day here, so far!
How about with you?
