Hi, Rusty!
The flexihose is a rubber tubing inside a metal (flexible) casing.
In this instance, both have worn out!
I should have thought that the metal was there to protect the inner tubing?
Anyway... the plumber has been back and replaced hoses to both the hot and cold tap.
The bath is now functional again!
The Emergency line told me that part is unlikely to be covered by the Insurance, but the very nice Yorkshire lad, who is going to be dealing with our enquiry, told me to send him all the details anyway, and he would see what he could sort out.
(We had a nice chat, discussing the relative merits of Yorkshire and Lancashire!)
Re the rebuilding ie a mostly new ceiling! .......
I need to send in either one or two quotes, depending on how expensive the work proves to be, from workmen of our choice.
I don't think the Insurance co. will have any objection to our using a known and trusted builder.
I must say that I have been very impressed by the helpfulness and efficiency we have so far encountered.
The carpet though is another matter - a tad poggy does not begin to describe it!
I hope the cycling was good?

Hello, Pigale!
And a good job that we knew how to access the outside switching off point in the street, otherwise the water would have kept on coming!
I had three hours in bed last night, what with all the mopping up and sweeping up!
But we are making good progress all things considered.
All the workmen have been so helpful!

Hello, Elle.
My knowledge of flexihoses is limited to seeing those they sell in Screwfix!
The insurance company seem to be very fair.
It is not the fact that your builder is known and trusted by you, but whether they meet the standards of the insurance company.
But they do appear to be happy enough.
Your builder friends may recommend another company to give a quote, too?
So far, things seem to be going well, though?
The cycling was excellent.
Very hard racing, and several Belgian "murs" to climb.
I think "mur" means "wall".
Maybe where we get "mural" from?
The one day classic riders are very tough guys.
The racing is often brutal!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, funnily enough , despite the chaos and the terrible mess, we have not had too bad a day.
It was quite uplifting to receive such ready and friendly help.
And whether or not we get much financial aid from the Insurance people , they certainly pulled out all the stops to organise things for us.
I think that is almost more important than being financially compensated?
Yes, "mur " is the French word for "wall".
I shall be watching Olly "Murs" soon in "The Voice" - more "Battle Rounds" later tonight!
At present, I am finally watching some Athletics!

Hello, Elle!
You will be brushing up on your tea making skills, for the lads!
I have not had to put in an insurance claim for my house so I have no knowledge of the ins and outs of it, I'm afraid.
You seem happy enough with the way things are going, though?
Maybe Olly is of French descent?

Hi, Rusty!
I think Olly is an Essex boy!
I am switching between the Athletics and "The Voice", with the recorder set for "Casualty"!
I can go days without wanting to watch a programme..... and now there are three at once that I wish to see!
Chris O'Hare did brilliantly, taking Silver!

Hello, Elle!
Ah, but Olly perhaps is descended from the invading Normans?
I know what you mean about programmes clashing!
There is another big bike race in Belgium tomorrow, plus the track cycling, and athletics.
I will be worn out!
How is the damage in your home now?
What's the plan?

Hi, Rusty!
Actually, I am feeling less stressed than I had envisaged about midnight last night!
We have spent the day cleaning....
All the rubble is swept up, bagged up and outside.
The dining chair seat cushions are a write off, so they too are in a rubbish bag.
It will be a visit to Ikea at some stage to replace them.
The dining table , which is solid oak, is still very wet..... I think the surface may need re-polishing professionally, but we shall see.
The table took the brunt of the cascading water.
The carpet is soaked......but I think I have heard of a drying machine for such circumstances?
I shall look into that.
As the carpet is fitted, we do not want to take it up, as it may never go down again.....
But the leak is fixed, the bath is functional again; the electrics are fine; and all that now remains to fix is the ceiling.
It seems manageable!
The plan is to ask the builders to call round when convenient to take a look at the damage, and give us an estimate to send to the Insurance company.
The repair work, though, will presumably have to wait until the woodwork has dried out?
I am way to my bed soon....before I fall down from exhaustion!
I only had three hours sleep last night!

Hello, Elle!
You seem to be well enough organised after the calamity.
My pal in Norn Iron has a carpet cleaning business, and I know he gets insurance jobs for premises that have been flooded.
He has equipment that dries out walls, too.
So, I think you should easily get someone to dry out your carpets.
Ask the insurance company for a reputable local company that deals with this kind of thing, or your builder friends may know of someone?
Your builder will know when best to start and you may have to wait until they can fit your job in, anyway, and it might involve several different trades.
I bet you will sleep tonight, after all the excitement!

It is a very wet, but mild, morning here.
Lots of mud for the dog to enjoy!
It is YB's birthday today - he is three.
And they are on their way for a ride in Thomas the Tank Engine!
I have just been speaking to him on the phone, and he is very excited.
Athletics starts in ten minutes......

Good morning, Elle!
Great day here!
Blue skies and fluffy white clouds.
Was my info on the carpet drying out, any use to you?
I am just kempting myself up before I go out.
Enjoy the athletics,
