Rusty, I hadn't thought of about the lack of a SIM card! I will run all these problems by younger daughter at some stage - not that we are going ahead with the idea of installing "Whats App" on our Hudls any more, but it would be nice to get it sussed out , wouldn't it?!

But why not replace your old phone with a smart phone?
Then you can have photos and WhatsApp etc.
You can get a decent one for less than £100.
Get a new SIM for it and you are away!
Your daughters can then send photos of the young ones every day, if they like, and all free on WhatsApp.

There is one 'wee' thing that has always puzzled me.
Now, I love England (well the UK), and all its traditions and I respect your monarchy - even though I would not like to see one in France - I simply cannot imagine your country without the Royal Family, nor can I imagine it without any of its traditions - it would break the charm.

But,

Why does Her Majesty the Queen have an 'Official' birthday that is different to her real one ?

I shudder at the thought of being faced with such 'modern' technology as a 'new' phone!
I cannot abide all this touch screening / swiping etc. plus all the complications of photos and God -knows -what -else.
When I went to purchase my existing phone, the guy in the shop asked me what I wanted it to do.... I very firmly said "Ring"!... and that is more or less all it does do!
I call and text on it- end of story! and I get to PRESS BUTTONS rather than swiping the screen!
(Goodness knows what I shall do when it becomes completely archaic!)
I'm coping with my Hudl (just about! but look how many times you've had to sort me out there!
If people want me to look at their photos/ videos, they can send them to my desk top - now I CAN manage that!

I think the Sovereign having a 'second' birthday in a summer month- hence June - arose so that it could be ensured that there be good weather for the Trooping of the Colour.
Were the King's / Queen's birthday in winter for instance, there is supposedly more likelihood of bad weather for the ceremony

I saw the change of the Guards many times while on visits to London.

I also saw (within a meter of me !) the Queen Mother on her visit to Alderney where I lived for two years (1975/1977); I remember thinking she had a wonderful conplexion.

Just came back from the Vet for kittens first vaccin - just as well there are only two ! It is not cheap!

Anyway, I tought I had a male and a female, and it turns out they are both female - only one is so hairy (long hair, angora type) that the Vet herself had a job to ascertain what he/she was ! I had decided to call him 'Fluffy', and Fluffy she will remain even though it sounds a bit masculine.

Next thing is sterilization for Mum and later for the two young ones. It is a real budget, but its only that bad for the first year I suppose.

I've just come back, too! it's lovely out - warmer than of late.
Yes, it's quite an expense having the pets vaccinated, isn' t it? Our dog had her booster vaccination on Monday - that plus flea and worm preparations set us back about £90!
And you have two of them and as it's the kittens first time, they'll have to have two lots of jabs!
Being spayed will also cost you quite a lot! I hope it's cheaper to carry out in France than it is here!

I can't remember how much the Vet mentioned for having the kittens spayed; Today cost me 160 euros to have the two kittens' first jab, a sterilized liquid for their their eyes (a bit red - after that I'll put a compress of cold tea - excellent for eyes) and a flea/tique collar for the mother.

In two weeks I am taking the mother for injection (don't think she ever had any, she found me, I did not get her from anyone), tattoing (compulsory) and being spayed because I don't want her to have litters every times she is on heat - that will cost me 208 euros!

Now I don't quite know how much that is in Pounds, I know the pound is quite strong - or rather the Euro is weak - but it is quite a lot nonetheless. Followed by the 2nd jab of the kittens, and then two/three months later they will be spayed. The vet kindly said that they would knock something of the price because of 'bulk treatment' !!!

I've no idea what the exchange rate is - I'm sure it's going to be dear tho'!
At our vets, we get a 15% multi-pet discount off all vaccinations if we own three or more animals. ( We are down to two only now since the recent death of one of our cats, so no longer qualify for that!)
Microchipping here has been voluntary - altho obviously advisable - but is becoming law for dogs by next year.
