Hello Rusty,

There are in fact three solvers who appear on this forum and who
are on the leader board.
What I don't quite understand is how anyone can solve AND type
a cryptic 15x15 in 1.39 minute!

Look at the stats for last Sunday Cryptic and the best time was
1.39 mns - Now, apart from the solving (and reading the clue in
the first place!), even given all the answers, I could not type them
in that time - and I am a fast touch typist!
Even if the solvers can just dictate to their computer, I hardly think
it feasible - logically, however cleaver they might be!

Oh, it is not going to stick...already the snow is changing to hailstones..... then I am sure it will rain .....!
But it was exciting whilst it lasted!!
Daughter has sent some photos of the boys at Alton Towers...some of the activities are outside ...and it is snowing there!
They look to be having a great time!

That seems an incredibly fast time, Pigale?
I thought the top lads in the Championships took between 4 and 5 minutes per puzzle?
Yes, 1.39 mins takes a bit of believing, doesn't it.
I do not really understand the speed-solving attraction.
I prefer to "savour" the puzzle and I suppose I usually take between 20 minutes and an hour to solve one.

I am, though, harbouring the most uncharitable thought that - clever though indeed these solvers might be - some folk do need to get out more and get a life.......
But then of course, perhaps they cannot ...... I should be more tolerant and understanding

Glad to see we are on the same wavelength elle!
and glad too that you agree with me Rusty about the incredible
time for resolving a puzzle.
What gets me that it does take more than 1.39mns to READ
and understand all the clues!!!
To me, it is just not feasible, unless the 1.39 mn is just the
typing time - but then how long does it take them to SOLVE
the puzzle?

Anyway, I too prefer to take my time, and it is not only because
I need time, but I too want to get some enjoyment out of it
