in our local park, we originally had a cycle lane... this gave pedestrians/ dog walkers and intelligent dogs (!) the chance to avoid the cyclists....
Some bright spark of a designer decided to do away with it...
We now have a narrower path, no jurisdiction over the cyclists ("you should be over there in your lane , mate")
and less room to avoid being hit by said cyclists!!!!

I joined a cycling club aged 13, and if any of us youngsters did not obey the accepted rules of cycling and the road, we were soon brought into line by the older riders. Worked very well!

Like you folk, I have been caught unaware by a cyclist silently overtaking me. It can be disconcerting.
They may not have a bell on the bike, but the vast majority have tongues in their head to shout a warning.
The golfers manage a "fore" to warn folk.
Cyclists should manage a "coming past" or a "yoo-hoo" to alert us.
It is lack of cycling education.

Just back from town - took advantage of 'relatively' cooler weather (temporarily very warm rather than very hot) to shop a bit.

I think i shall just to br patient for everything to be back to normal regarding connection. I stopped at my favourite cafe and had a chat with several of the locals - they all have the same problem re Internet, and one of them said that he knew they were doing repair work at the local exchange. At least it has nothing to do with my own connection.

I do use Firefox via which I access Google - so not much more Norah and Ash could tell me.

BUT patience is not always one of my vertues !!!!

The cycle path outside Waterloo East station at approx. 8.00 am onwards is on the pavement.....you take your life in your hands walking along.

I have been experimenting with different browsers lately, (just for something to do!).
All the articles etc I have read, say that for a sluggish connection, the best browser is Opera.
It has a "turbo" feature which speeds things up.
I have quite a few browsers enabled and Opera is one of them.
