Thanks for the great clip Chris
Lehrer was a genius and brilliant pianist. He will be 90 next April. My husband was a great fan.
His song where he names the elements to the tune of G&S Major General is a Tour de Force

It was arguably libellous, though, jazzy - Lobachevsky was a famous mathematician (as was Lehrer, though not famous for his maths!)

Hello, Chris!
I hadn't heard those lyrics about Lobachevsky before .
(He was a geometrist , wasn't he?)
The Tom Lehrer song with which I am most familiar is "Poisoning the Pigeons in the Park"!

Hello, Elle!
Yes, your "presents" point is very well taken!
Jess and two friends have opened a coffee shop, not sure where.
But she keeps herself very fit, although obviously not racing fit.
Young Miss Muir is running 4k cross-country at Kirkcaldy tomorrow.
I am not completely delighted with Minsk.
"Mins" for "short time"?
I suppose it could be.
And I am struggling with half of 9A.
I am pretty sure it is "rock band".
I know there was a book called "Brighton Rock", but why is "sticks out" "band"?
"Banned" is not "sticks out", surely?
I suspect I am missing something? Or is it the clue?
Anyway, you know the older of the two vloggers?
That is Mark Goodliffe, who has won The Times Crossword Championship eleven times.
I'm for the Pine Cone tomorrow with two of the young ones!

Hi elle
I have a vague memory of Lobachevsky geometry being the alternative to Riemann - one on a sphere, the other on a saddle - but I can't remember which was which! (Euclidean, of course, being on a plane)

Hi, Rusty!
I think 9a is okay?
My thinking is
rock band = pop group (def)
Brighton, for example - rock
(Yes, Brighton Rock is a book by Graham Greene )
sticks (of rock) "out" as in "banned"
Sounds like "band"
Seems all right?
Yes, I think "mins" for minutes is ok for short time!
(a double definition even?)
Will you get to see Laura running?
Is it being televised?
Or even maybe near you?
(I don't know where Kirkcaldy is?)
So which two granddaughters are accompanying you to the Pine Cone tomorrow?

Chris, I'm vague on this, but I think Lobachevskian geometry is hyperbolic.........saddle?
I wouldn't put my shirt on it , though!

Hello, Elle!
I don't think I could give 9a pass marks, I'm afraid.
In the other one, I would have preferred "short timeS" for "mins".
But, never mind!
I doubt Laura's race is on TV.
Kirkcaldy is across the river in Fife.
Laura will be at home there!
I will wait to see if she Tweets after the race.
I have been watching the Track World Cup Cycling from Manchester.
It is a bit baffling.
There are National teams, Trade teams, and Cycling clubs, competing against each other.
In the women's team sprint, the result was
1, Germany
2, Russian Federation
3, Holy Brother Cycling Team (from China)

And in the men's race,
1 Germany,
2, Beat Cycling Club
3, Netherlands
A bit confusing!
Miss La Bamba and Miss O are taking me tomorrow!

Hi, Rusty!
We shall have to agree to differ about 9a?
I really don't have a problem with it!
I am totally confused about your cycling teams!
But speaking of cycling, I see that there is cycling coverage of the Track World Cup on BBC2, on both Saturday and Sunday........
Is this a repeat of what you have just been watching?
And hey, there is tennis coverage of the ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 stadium in London, from Sunday and then all the week on BBC2!
Great! I am looking forward to it!

Hello, Elle!
I think 9a and Minsk are poor clues, for me.
You must see something that escapes me!
The Track World Cup takes place over the weekend.
There is a very strange format there.
I have no idea what BBC2 is showing.
I'll stick to EuroSport, and there is skiing tomorrow.
