Hello, Elle!
They intended to go to California.
But she prefers Florida.
Thinks the food is better there.
Well, maybe not better, but more to her taste.
I have finished my puzzle.
I thought it was a toughie, today!
I have it all parsed except for one letter in 19a.
Yes, home for the day.
My son will visit later.

Hi, Rusty!
It is still damp here...the forecast was way out, as we were told it would be a dry day!
Now.....I have not finished the crossword, but, as I go about it systematically, I have passed - and done - 19A!
I have got "Hermes" = Herald (messenger of the Olympic gods)
her - the female
me ('s) - setter (for today's)
But I cannot see how this can be grammatical....you cannot have "me's" ??
But how else to get the "s"?
I am not happy with this .......
What do you think?
So far I am stuck on 14 A?
One's coming in at nine o'clock making the most sound (6)
I have W?S?S?
I had to look up "enneads" - that was a new word for me!

Hello, Elle!
Snap!
I have no idea where the "s" in Hermes comes from!
If you change the numbers on a clock to compass points, which direction will replace 9 o'clock?
15, I have an answer, but not confident of the parse.
24, I remembered that one from "Down Under"!
And I do not like 23 down!

Hi, Rusty!
Ah, "West", with "i's" in it...giving "wisest" = most sound (def)
I would never have got that!
I had done 15a as an anagram of "listener" so got "Leinster"?
When I googled that, it is home to a Rugby Club....fifteen team members?
Got "arvo " for PM (afternoon!)
But cannot do 23d?
So far, I have only got ?R??
I have seven more clues to go........

Update, Rusty!
I now have ?R?G for 23 d, so think it must be "drug" = medicinal"?
I cannot parse it though?
And my very last one is 21 d:
Decoration's been lying in case, upside down (6)
?I?I?L
What time will your son be with you?

Hello, Elle!
23, was my last one and I think it stinks,
"Did fancy" is "dug", past tense of "dig".
Teenybopper language!
With (offe)r.
"Dug" hosts "r" giving "drug" for something medicinal.
Leinster is famous for rugby so fifteen may do, but when I think of Leinster, I think of the province, so maybe I overthought it.
Looks OK, though.
Well done on "arvo"!
Did the Hill's Hoist tell you that one?!

Hello, Elle!
Posts crossed!
21, is "finial", a decoration, apparently, new to me.
"Been lying" is "lain", "in case" the setter sees as "if".
Reversed for "finial".
Not an easy puzzle today, Elle.
My son will be here at 6.

Oops, Rusty!
Yes, we crossed!
No, I would never have thought of "dug" under those circumstances!
"finial "is a new word to me?
I'm pleased with myself, though, for the Rugby 15!
I think "arvo" may have come from a misspent youth watching "Neighbours"!
Have a good evening with your son........

Hello, Elle,
I think you have done very well today.
It was not a straightforward puzzle.
I think "drug" was a poor clue.
I liked 1d, " My turn:quiet!(4)"
I have got in shortie biscuits for my son's visit!
