Good evening, Rusty!
We are just back from the vets ......
It is not particularly good news....
The cat's temperature is still high - it was 40.3C this morning - the normal temp for a cat is apparently 38C - it had dropped a little bit this afternoon to 39.7C
He is still having antibiotics through a drip, which is now encased in an ice-pack.....
He also has a fan focused on him now.
The cause of the fever is remaining somewhat of a mystery.
But on the plus side, he is eating , peeing and pooing!
And purring loudly when I arrive!
We shall see what tomorrow brings!
(Hopefully the biopsy results!)
Barnet used to be in Hertfordshire!
My parents lived there before a bomb destroyed their house in the war!
Whereupon they moved back north to Bolton!
(I narrowly escaped being a Southerner!)
I am thinking that Miss Peckwitt may have "lied" simply to preserve her anonymity?
(is that spelt correctly?)

hi Elle
To avoid any confusion, birth registrations in the years I mentioned were registered in, and shown as "Barnet (Middlesex)"
The borders for neighbouring counties changed over the years

Hello, Elle!
Now, now, Elle!
Do I detect an implied criticism of being a Southerner?
Miss Peckwitt's publishers would not have wanted the truth known as the books were very popular.
I know there were waiting lists for them at the library.
They were very good tales, but, now I ask myself, was any of it true?
She was practically driven from Skye by the islanders, don't forget.
I know I had a feeling of betrayal after all those years.
I believed in "Miss Peckwitt"!
Your cat seems to be feeling OK within himself?
I did not realise Barnet would have been bombed?
There were several bombs hit Dundee, but they reckon they were intended to hit the rail bridge and the harbour.
Your spelling looks flawless to me!

Jazzgirl, I have heard of South Mimms service station.
Not sure when or why though?
Nothing to do with the Great Train Robbery, I wonder?

rusty, I have heard of it, but I know nothing about it. It often comes up on the traffic news though. I will leave you to google. One of the genealogy websites I use for my research shows Barnet as per link. My brain hurts.

Hi, Rusty!
Goodness, I do not seem to have had the time to turn around since coming back from the vets!
First, I had to wash my hair.......then organise (and eat) dinner!
Still, the night is yet young and lies before me...!
Now, Miss P!
I do not have the same sense of betrayal as you, because you had already warned me that her stories were not strictly true!
So maybe this is why I think differently?
To me , it does not matter if the tales are fabricated or the truth is stretched?
They are good stories and I enjoyed them....... and I must admit that I now cannot remember if we were told at any stage that they were supposedly "true to life"?
Were we?
How is the tennis going?
And your golf?

Hello, Elle!
When I first came across the books it was around 30 years ago.
About 24 years before I had a computer.
There was no Amazon or Goodreads to look up to get an opinion on a book, just the "blurb" on the book.
So, I believed what she wrote.
I had no reason not to, although I would imagine anyone who visited Skye and asked about her would soon be put straight.
They were not sold as "fiction" books.
She said she shared a flat in Yorkshire with her friend Mary and left there to go and live with Morag McDugan on Skye.
I believed that. And it turned out to be complete nonsense!
She lived with a husband, somewhere!
She was a well practised liar, is what she was.
Was there ever a Mary? Or a Morag?
I don't believe so.

Hi, Rusty!
Oh dear.. well, yes, I can see how you considered yourself "cheated"!
The books were funny though!
I have just begun reading "Starter for 10" by David Nicholls.
He who wrote "One Day", which I think I mentioned recently as being a very good correlation between book and film ?
This book, too, says on its front cover that it is "Now a major motion picture"!
I have neither heard of, nor seen, this , though!
You don't mention the tennis?
Any interesting news to impart?
How is Roger doing?
