Hi, Rusty!
I am glad that the golf is going well........
You do not sound too enamoured of the cycling?
Maybe because the visibility is poor? Not a lot to see?
Well... tennis update.....
Jo is out to Venus.
I think Jo became somewhat rattled in the second set ... ....Venus outplayed her without a doubt.
Well done to Venus.
I was disgusted with Jo for snatching up her things and walking off without waiting for her opponent.
Bad form in my book.
Jo has gone down in my estimation!
Martina and Jamie are on next.
Yes, I've finished my puzzle, bar parsing for 22d?
Twelve hours you could say put paid to ally (6)
I have friend = ally (def)
but cannot parse it further?
Have you done yours?

Hello, Elle,
Jo should show respect for an older lady...yes!
Cycling was pretty tame today.
Friend is correct.
12 hours is half a day.
The day is Friday.
Fri.
Put paid to is "end".
Fri end.
Yes, I have finished mine.

Hello Elle and Rusty!

Yes, shame about the fog up in the mountains - deprived us of
a beautiful scenery..... and of seeing any bears!

I am very pleased with Romain Bardet though, and I think he has
improved a lot since last year.
With Froome out of the Yellow Jersey (might be temporary though),
the race is being given an added interest.
What do you think?

How was your day Elle?

Hi, Rusty!
It isn't actually anything to do with showing respect for age........
It is an old well - established custom at Wimbledon to wait for one's opponent and walk off court together.
This has always been the case.
Sadly, it doesn't happen as much these days.....but the great sportsmen still do it.
Watch players like Novak and Rafa......
Now.....sorry to be dim...... I understand that 12 hours is half a day, but why is the day "Friday"?
This clue would have been more appropriate for tomorrow?
One more I need help with, please?
I overlooked this.....
24d: Join in dishonest practice (5)
I have graft = join
Where does the "dishonest practice" come in?

Hello, Elle!
The day is Friday because that is the only day the clue would work with.
Thers are seven named days in the week and most of us can name them.
Just a case of working through them
A good clue.
Graft is corruption/dishonest practice.
Do you have graft3 in your Chambers?
Anne Bradford has graft under corruption.
It is in use more in the USA, i think.
I watched Hingis/Murray.
Was good!
In le Tour Froome has lost the yellow jersey, but it is a long long way to Paris!

Hello, Pigale!
Sorry, I did not see your post!
Pity about the fog!
Maybe tomorrow will be better?
Bardet rode well!
The French riders are improving!
I think Froome will come back though!
Must go, my son has landed!

Hi, Pigale!
Sorry, yes, I had missed your post because you and I posted at virtually the same time!
It is a pity that you had such poor visibility for the cycling today!
I know how you enjoy watching both the racing and the countryside through which it passes.
I have been watching tennis for most of the day.
It was disappointing to see Jo Konta go out.... but it was a well deserved win for Venus Williams!
Time now to go and sort out dinner......

Hi, Rusty!
It feels chilly indoors!
Strangely it is much warmer in the garden!
I have been watching Heather and Henri playing Mixed Doubles.
What a match!
Some terrific tennis - and quite a lot of fun had; especially between Heather and her partner.
It was good to see!
It was a closely fought match......but won eventually (after two hours) by Heather and Henri.
The pair play Soares and Vestnina next.
Has your son gone home now.....?
You will have had a good chat!

Good morning, Elle!
Lovely weather here.
Yes, my son visited and brought a roast beef dinner from the butcher!
I am pleased Heather and partner won.
I watched a bit of Martina Hingis and Jamie Murray.
They played well.
Shorter stage in the Tour today but still in the mountains.
And will there be bears?!
