Hi, Rusty!
Beautiful here now!
Still very cold though.
Yes, I agree...if you really cannot get on with your book, the do not waste time on it!
Time is precious!
Where has the book gone?
In the bin...or in the charity bag?
"To the Pribilofs" always makes me think of Alice in Wonderland and the Queen of Hearts saying "Off with her/ his head!"
So what are you reading instead?
Now today I have done the 15 x15......I do think it must depend on the Setter and my wavelength.........
I 've managed the parsing all bar one......
How does one get "Inners" in 12 a?
I can see how to arrive at "Hebride"!
I especially liked 1a and 1d, and 10d!
The house is cleaned and as ready as it's going to be for the "onslaught"!

Hello, Elle!
Book is in the bin.
I do not take to deceitful folk, so there it will remain.
Now, I have not looked at the crossword yet, but to help you and your parse, may I suggest you open your fine copy of Chambers and look up "inner"?
The reference to archery, (if they have it!) should help you!
How are you and the Europlayer getting on?
A match made in Heaven?

Hello, Pigale!
That was an excellent clip!
Thank you!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, your book is best in the bin......love and trust is the way to go forward......there is no room in life for lies and deceit.
Thank you for the clue....yes, I have looked up "inner".......
Chambers says an "inner" is a 'hit' on the part of the target next to the bull's eye.
In other words, a "shot"..... but however was I to know that?
It's even worse than a cricket reference!
Europlayer?
Well, I have now received two more emails as promised!
I gather I should follow the instructions to discover how the system works.
I have not had time to "play" further with it yet!
I do look in daily on the site to see if there is any tennis or athletics showing that I haven't heard about!
I wouldn't want to miss anything!
Right...sunshine and fresh air call....we are now going out for a walk!

Hello, Elle!
".....but however was I to know that?"
You were not to know that!
That is the reason that the vast majority of us solvers on this forum, all have decent dictionaries, for we will all come across words/meanings that are new to us!
When I started out many years ago, I did a crossword in the Daily Express.
I forget the clue, but the definition was "club".
The only answer that fitted, was "priest", and I could not think why "priest" meant "club".
And my youngest son (a very keen fisherman) explained the link.
A "priest" is the name given to the "club" with which anglers bash the caught fish on the head to kill it.
That decided me to buy a good dictionary, and it has been very useful across the years and I would not be without it!
It is a bit brighter here, but quite cold.

Hi, Rusty!
It has been a lovely afternoon and great to be out!
I can put up with the cold if we have sunshine to cheer us!
I liked your reminiscence about "priest" and "club"........
I should of course have resorted to Chambers to look up "inners".......
I didn't even think of it under those circumstances!
I have recorded "15 to 1" as I noticed that it was back again.
The last time I saw the programme was when William G. Stewart was quizmaster - and "Daphne" from Eggheads was a regular contestant!
Did you ever watch it "in those days"?
I shall look forward to viewing it later.

Good evening, Elle!
Yes, Chambers is handy!
I am sure many on here have their own "priest/club" stories!
I never knew a "jade" was a horse until I met one in a crossword!
And I have probably quite a few more!
I have never watched "15 to 1".
I know Daphne Fowler, though!
I liked her on Eggheads.
What has happened to CJ?
Was not Interpol looking for him, or something?
Seems to be a tad milder here.
Hope so!

Good evening, Rusty!
I find cricket terms are one of my worst problems with crosswords!
Looking up a word is a possibility once one realises the necessity for that!
All too often, I do not see the cricket reference and so would not know what to look for.
Ah well, onwards and upwards......it is all experience!
Now, CJ........he just kind of disappeared from Eggheads without any explanation, didn't he?
He and Daphne appeared to be on very friendly terms - she talked as though they sometimes saw each off the programme?
I think he was arrested for the suspected murder of a "mugger"?
I read that he wrote about the incident - in his autobiography - where he supposedly tossed a would- be mugger into a canal in Amsterdam.
How much truth there was /is to this, I have no idea?
I do not recall reading of any follow-up or consequences?
I think the weather here is supposed to be milder tomorrow - but we may have early morning mist!

Hello, Elle,
Roman numerals are hard for me.
I am not good at them in clues!
I never took to CJ.
Not my kind of person.
I think he has a vivid imagination, too.
Our temperature may hit 7C tomorrow.
I hope so!

A very good morning to you, Rusty!
8C here!
Dampish but mild!
I believe we are due some more rain later.
I had a phone call from our elder daughter whilst I was in the park.
"The best laid plans of mice and men....."
Her younger son was ill all last night, with a very high temperature, so they are not coming today after all!
She says she will report in later and they will come tomorrow if he is improved.
Failing that.......she and elder son may come for the weekend, when Dad can look after the younger one!
Oh dear! why cannot life be simple and go according to plan?
A free day now looms ahead......
I shall make the most of it!

Good morning, Elle!
It is still a bit cold here.
I did a bit of driving earlier and had the heater on on for a minute or two.
Unusual for me.
Not so good about your grandson.
Let's hope the rest of the family do not get it!
Just a bug, though, a day or so and he will be to the fore again!
So, now you have time to spring-clean the Hill's hoist and complete and parse the crossword using your fine copy of Chambers!
My tasks are done for the day.
Just heard that Trotty and Jason Kenny are expecting their first child!
Great news!
