I've asked a couple of obscure questions on AnswerBank and had very helpful answers back almost immediately. It's a very useful resource.

Hi, Rusty!
Still wet here....
Just got home again......
I have had an inch cut from my hair!
And for at least a couple of days ( until I wash my hair again!) I am now sporting "straight" hair!
My hairdresser manages to straighten my unruly locks, which is more than I can do myself successfully!
(No matter what I do, my hair curls!)
Have you done the crossword?
I never got around to completing yesterday's - although belatedly I did do "orthodox", which I think is what you and Malone must have been discussing?
Anything "strange or startling" in today's puzzle?
I shall take a look after lunch.
I always thought a "sconce" (not sure about the spelling) was a candlestick?

Good afternoon, Elle!
What have you against curly hair?
Just be natural!
My hair is wavy.
Yes, crossword complete.
Nothing too desperate in it today.
A mathematical term I did not know.
And I really should twig that St Paul is in Minnesota, a bit sooner than I did!
I had cathedral in my head!
I knew it was a "Twin City" but I can never remember the other one.
And an old coin that was a vaguish memory at the back of my brain.
"Orthodox" is what Malone and me were disparaging of, yes!
"Ortho" sounds like "author", the setter fondly imagines!
I did know not any meaning of "sconce", Elle.
Chambers gives four different meanings,
including your candlestick.
I am too young to remember them!

I have two candle sconces on my living room walls. They have decorative backs and a fold-down plate with a spike for relatively chunky candles, which last a long time and provide a lovely soft light.

Good afternoon, Rusty!
I have nothing at all against curly hair, except mine!
Your own curly mop is fine!
(except for needing cutting!)
All my life , I have dreamed of having straight hair........
Where friends have wanted curls........I have been desirous of straight tresses!
Maybe my mother read ''Rapunzel'' to me too often......?
Yet another homophone today that might have set your teeth on edge?
"continence" sounding like "continents"?
Not to me it doesn't!
And did "caballeros" have you thinking about Bing?
I have a record where he is singing of these "gay caballeros".......
Now whatever is the name of the song ?
Oh dear, this is really going to bug me...
Do you know it?
I may have to get out all the old "78s"
I don't know any other meanings of "sconce" - I shall have to consult Chambers.
But I am glad that you feel "young"!

Hi rusty
Minneapolis/St.Paul. Weirdly, Minneapolis is trhe only place in the US that I've stayed (we had a friend there for a year). Liked it very much.

Hello, Elle!
I was pleased to get "continents" and did not particularly parse the clue.
But, yes, you are right.
Continence/continents is better than some of their efforts, though!
I'll tell you exactly what "caballero" brought to my mind!
I follow my local football team on Twitter, and this morning they sent me a Tweet, telling us that today was the birthday of one of our ex-players.
His name? Fabian Caballero!
He scored quite a few goals for us!
Yes, quite a few meanings of sconce.

That's it Chris, Minneapolis!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, what a strange coincidence that "caballero" should be the answer to a clue, on the same day you received a tweet about Fabian Caballero!
Spooky or what?
I am pleased to say that I solved the Bing problem.......although I did have to take a look at all my old Bing records!
A huge pile of 78s!
I can still play them on a record deck that I bought from the Sunday Times!
The song was "The Three Caballeros" sung with the Andrew Sisters.
Now...... a clue I cannot do...?
14a: Soft bundle one used for drying channel (4)
?A?I
You would have liked "Eggheads" tonight...another "Daphne" episode!

Yes, I managed to find the Bing song, JG.
It was indeed "The Three Caballeros."
And it goes......
"We're three caballeros
Three gay caballeros
They say we are birds of a feather..........."
