No, Have not seen Harvey, but I did see another film in which James Stewart speaks to his wife by her grave; I can't remember the name of the film, but that particular part was very moving. Would you know the film I mean?

On a very different note, I very much liked Rainman - what part for Dustin Hoffman - but there again, he is such a wonderful actor (well I think so !)

Hello, Elle!
Yes, Babe was the sheep-pig.
A wonderful film.
There is a tree up not far from me.
I tend to stay clear of the festivities!
My son has just gone home.
Had a good chat!
I liked the "African Queen", too.

Hello, Pigale,
Nice to hear from you!
Any snow your way?
It is very mild here.
I liked Jimmy Stewart, too.
He was awarded the Croix de Guerre, you know.
He flew bombers on missions into Germany during the war.
And an excellent actor!

Hello Rusty,

Yes, I knew about the Croix de Guerre and his flying bombers etc...
Excellent actor indeed.

Sunny but very frosty mornings still, and no more than 8C at the best part of the day - at least it is sunshine - if we are to get some snow, it is usually more often in January; fairly unusual for us to have a white Christmas.

Hi, Rusty!
I'm glad you had a good evening with your son!
It is good to talk!
Were they "real" animals in the film "Babe"?
Or was it an animated film?
Somehow along the line......I missed it!
Now what is the name of that other very famous Humphrey Bogart film......the title seems often to be mentioned in the same breath as "African Queen"?
Would it be "The Big Sleep"?
Yes, I think that might be right?
Private Investigator Philip Marlowe...based on Raymond Chandler's book.
I think I read somewhere that "Casablanca" is being shown again over the Christmas period.
Oh dear....nostalgia is kicking in!
My daughter has texted to say she has arrived back at Gatwick and is now en route for home!
It is good to know that she is back safely.

Hello, Pigale!
I cannot think which film you mean with James Stewart.
But I have seen "Rainman"
Yes, Dustin Hoffman portrayed the autistic brother very well.
A good actor.

Hello, Elle!
The animals looked real enough.
But they talk.
Very impressive!
Go to YouTube, type "Babe" and the first entry is the last few minutes of the film.
Babe and The Quiet Man are my two favourite films.
Christmas is great for the old films.
I would think Babe is bound to be on.
Good news about your daughter!
Did someone collect her from Gatwick?

Hey, Rusty!
I have watched an excerpt of "Babe".
That was fascinating!
How is it done? how do they make an animal apparently "talk"?
Is this what they call "digital enhancement"?
Now I am wondering whether your liking for "The Quiet Man" might have something to do with its female star.....??
I think my favourite film of all time has to be "To Kill A Mocking Bird".
But there are other old favourites that I like..... "High Society" (Bing Crosby) is one.....
"The Great Escape" is another (I do like Steve McQueen!)
I watch "Pretty Woman" every time they repeat it!
"Little Women" - the Winona Ryder version based on Louisa May Alcott's book - always goes down well too.
No, our daughter took the train home.
The Gatwick Express is very quick to Victoria (30 minutes) and then she just has to take another local train to reach home, which is only five minutes walk from the station.
Driving to collect her would have entailed an eighty mile round trip!

Hello, Elle!
It is great, eh!
Babe did remarkably well learning to be a sheep-pig.
I am not surprised they made a film about him.
I liked Farmer Hoggett, in it, too.
You will have to try and see the whole film.
These are popular films you mentioned.
I liked "Sleepless in Seattle" and "The Shawshank Redemption".
And "Jaws", "ET", "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", "Dances with Wolves", "The Godfather"..
I liked those a lot.
You seem to have an excellent transport system down there!
Good to know your daughter is safe home.

Good morning, Rusty!
Dry but dull - still muddy underfoot!
Frosty mornings are better as they equate to clean dog!
Yes, I liked "Sleepless in Seattle", too!
Our transport system works well when it isn't on strike!
All Southern Railway trains are mostly inoperative at present!
Chaos reigns!
I have a busy morning ahead of me.
We are going to visit our neighbour at his daughter's home at 11o'clock.
He will remain there with her until he at least has a definitive medical diagnosis.
After having coffee there, we shall go on to the crematorium with our wreath and plant.
Catch up with you later........

Just seen your discussion on films - James Stewart's finest film must be "It's a wonderful life"; I also like "The Philadelphia story" (one of my favourite films, with a connection to another you've mentioned - it was remade with songs as "High society") and "Destry rides again".

"The quiet man" is one of my favourites too. When we were in Galway we visited the cottage - it's in the middle of Cong.
