Hello, Elle!
No veg in stovies.
Tatties and roast beef, or corned beef, normally.
How to start a row in a Scottish pub.
"What's the ingredients in stovies?"
"Until They Sail" is in "Return to Paradise".
You can not read Michener and miss out his stories of the islands.
He is in a class of his own in the South Pacific.
So, how did your info finding out at BL go?
Is it straightforward to go there?
It is cold here, too.
But we have missed your winds and Dublin's snow!

Hi, Rusty!
At the risk of starting WW3........I could have sworn that my Scottish cousin told me there are vegetables in Stovies?
( Shall I duck?)
Now....I have been on Amazon and have found "Return to Paradise" for 1p!
Butt "Tales of the S.P" is relatively quite expensive at present.
I shall look again tomorrow!
You know how the prices can vary from day to day.
This is the website for the British Library.
http://www.bl.uk/
Apparently, the library is sited at Kings Cross - I didn't know that.
Yes, I can get there by public transport relatively easily - mainline train, and then the Tube.
There are no parking facilities on site - and going up to London by car is never a viable option.
Still raining!

Hello, Elle,
No need to duck!
But stovies and their ingredients cause rows.
If your Scots cousin puts in veg to stovies, then why ever not, in my humble opinion.
But, that is not the traditional way.
Posh stovies may have onion, but not any other veg.
What does Chambers have to say about it?
"Tales of the South Pacific" is on eBay from £2.69 and free postage, "good" condition, from Goldstone Books.
I have purchased from them before, and they are grand.
I will look at BL site tomorrow.
Is your Croydon tramway opened yet after the accident or is it too soon?

Good morning, Elle!
Beautiful morning, but cold!
Zero degrees just now!
There is a copy of "Tales of the South Pacific" on eBay, "very good condition," £2.89, inc post and packing, from Julie's Books.
I have had several books from them and no problems.
Off to shops now, then cemetery, then a bacon roll on the way home!
What an exciting life I lead!
PS.
i came across an interview of Linda Ronstadt on YouTube.
Have not watched it yet.
She talks about how Parkinson's finished her singing career.
It lasts for an hour.
Just hope it is not too sad.
And today's earworm is, "Coat of Many Colours" by Dolly P!

Good morning, Rusty!
I have only just arrived home from my walk!
There are repairs to waterworks in progress on two of our main access roads to the park.......the traffic is gridlocked!
I have had to walk , which has added an extra two miles to my morning outing!
It is a good job that I am fit! (she says with creaking joints!)
Thank you for the lowdown on the book - when I have had my breakfast (oh, yes, I was up late as well, and had to go out without eating!) I shall take a look.
I shall watch Linda Ronstadt later.
You have probably passed on the earworm........!
I hope your morning is going well.....enjoy the bacon roll.........now there's a thought for my breakfast........

Hello, Elle!
Slippy pavements here, and cars on the main road with snow on the roofs. No snow here though.
I have not watched Linda Ronstadt yet, so I do not know how good or not, it is.
I hope you find the eBay books interesting!

Hi, Rusty!
I enjoyed my belated breakfast!
Probably I should be calling it "brunch"?
It isn't as cold here as with you, but we only hit 4C early this morning.
Now.............
Following your very helpful advice - thank you so much for taking the trouble - I have googled "Julie's books" and.............guess what?
I was offered an Amazon link!
And there I found "Tales of the South Pacific" from Julie's bookshop, for 1p plus the £2-80 postage.
This was also in very good condition!
So, very much the same as "Julie " was offering on ebay!
I have gone with Amazon as I still have money in my account there.
I have also ordered "Return to Paradise" for 1p from World of Books.
A successful morning!
Re "stovies"..... Chambers gives it exactly as you said...but mentions that beer or stout can be added!

P.S. Rusty!

I liked this .....from "Hawaii"......
"Hakka women made powerful, strong-willed , intelligent wives, who demanded an equal voice in family matters - and no sensible man wanted a wife like that. "

(I knew I'd become fixated with "Coat of many colours.....")

Hello, Elle!
Beer or stout?!!! In stovies!!!
Never heard of that!
They'll be putting curry powder in it, next!
And I am sure that would be tasty, too!
Probably the same book.
Julie, like many of the book sellers inc World of Books, use Amazon and eBay.
I think Julie's is in the Newcastle area.
"Awesome" and "Abe" are sellers I like, too.
Read "Tales" first, then "Return".
No nonsense with those Hakka girls!

Good afternoon, Rusty!
I am still only half way through "Hawaii", so it will be some time before I graduate to Mr M's next novel... and I may read his autobiography first.
But that hasn't reached me yet.......your copy really was astoundingly quick to arrive!
Re "Hawaii"....I have travelled though about a thousand years again to meet the present Chinese contingent, so I am assuming that they must now be at the same time level as the others that I have already met... such as Abner Hale, John Whipple, Amanda, and their offspring, plus the Hawaiians ..... so it seems likely that they will all meet up somehow soon, and their lives will start to impinge on each other somehow?
I am only surmising.......I am sure I will find out soon!
Right, time for another walk, I think!
Are you going out walking?
Not that your weather sounds very enticing.......!
