Hi, Rusty!
No, until you just told me, I didn't know anything about the "Cavell Van" in which Nurse Edith's body was returned home.
I do not know the Kent and East Sussex Railway.
But I have just done a little investigating, and have unearthed another interesting titbit.....
The "Cavell Van" was also used to bring home the body of the "Unknown Warrior" - the British soldier who was killed on a battlefield in Europe.
His body was carried from Dover to London on board the Cavell Van on 10 November 1920, prior to the funeral service at Westminster Abbey on 11 November 1920.
His grave is at the west end of the Nave of Westminster Abbey.
I have nearly finished my book, too....only another fifty or so pages to read.......
I have forgotten what I am to read next...they are lined up in order of arrival........
(although I may cheat....)

Is that in Kent or Sussex, maybe?
I knew quite a bit about the Unknown Warrior and how the body was selected, but did not know they used the Cavell van to transport him.
Quite a bit of history attached to it!
I wonder if there is a biography on Nurse Cavell?
I shall investigate!

Tenterden is in Kent.
But I am becoming confused!
Googling first brought forth that the Cavell Van is kept as a memorial and is usually open to view at Bodiam railway station, in East Sussex.
Then I discovered that the Van is actually on display, at the moment, for the first time, in Norfolk.
Seemingly, this is Nurse Cavell's home county.
I am assuming that this is a temporary home for the honorary "celebration".
One report says (I quote).......
"The carriage - known as the 'Cavell Van' - will be on display on tracks outside The Forum in Norwich until 17 October and visitors can sit inside it".
I expect it will be transported back to Bodiam after this, as that seems to be its "home"?

Nurse Cavell is buried at Norwich Cathedral.
Could be why the Van is at Norwich?
I had never heard of this Van until yesterday.
We are always learning!
I had a look at her grave,
An inscription says, "gave her life for England"!
There is a biography by Diana Souhami.
I have read one of her books and it was excellent.
"Murder at Wrotham Hill".
I think Wrotham is in Kent?
The murder took place in 1946, a long time ago.
It's all happening down in Kent!

And I have even been to Wrotham!!
Yes, it is in Kent, about five (possibly?) miles from Sevenoaks.
And incidentally, "Wrotham" is rather strangely pronounced "Root um"!
Shall you get a book about Edith Cavell?
I should think it would make good reading?
I am away out in about half an hour.......first I must go and change out of my dog-walking gear.......

Not winter weather here, but it is not warm.
Apparently, most of Diana Souhami's biographies are about lesbians?
I have heard of Sevenoaks! Have you counted them?
We have some odd pronunciations up here too.
Anstruther is "Ainster", for one.
The book about the Wrotham murder was good.
It was a lady called Dagmar (cannot remember her surname) who died, and her killer hanged.
I may get the Edith Cavell book.
I topped up my account with my gift card today.
And now we have steady rain, here!

Miserable damp weather here too, even if no torrential rain (yet)
The South is on orange/red alert for very heavy rain/strong winds tonight and tomorrow - some flooding is expected.

I was just having a look on Amazon to see if there was a DVD about E, Cavell; there is one - the film was made just after the War; it is called Nurse Edith Cavell and is based on the book DAWN written by a certain Captain Reginald Berkely; I don't know if you have heard of him?

There are several DVDs but only one at an acceptable price - some are in the 60 or 80 bracket Euros ! one only costs 9,21 Euros which is much better. I might consider getting it with my next order.

It ended up being quite a nice day here.......we have had some sunshine and blue sky, but it has remained cold.
I have had a very successful day out !
I bought a lovely little outfit for half brother (whom we are going to meet next week!); a craft set (beads and stuff to make things) for our granddaughter; and "smellies" ( soap and body lotion) for their mum.
And daughter, Baby and I went to Wagamama's for lunch!
No, I wasn't aware that Diana Souhami wrote about lesbians?.... but then the only title that comes to my mind is "Gertrude and Alice".......
(With hindsight, a possible indication?)
You should enjoy the book about Edith Cavell, I think?
Actually, I think I read somewhere that there are now nine oak trees at Sevenoaks?
I could have that wrong?
Six of the seven oaks came down in the storm of 1987.......and more trees were planted then.

But you are right about there being a film.
I had read about it, though never seen it.
Anna Neagle played Nurse Edith Cavell.
It must be pretty old?

Rain here!
I am not a great one for the technology, Pigale, but I think you have to be careful buying DVD's from another country/zone.
If it is for another "zone" it won't play on your machine.
I have no idea if France and UK are in the the same zone or not. Maybe Europe is a DVD zone?
I do not know if it is possible to find out which "zone" you are in, or the "zone" the DVD is for?
I have not heard of Captain Berkely.
If you regularly buy DVD's from Amazon I am sure it will be fine!
