Hi,
I've a slightly unusual request. I'm a short story writer (amateur) and am writing about a character trying to solve a crossword clue. I've never tried to write a crossword clue before. Could anyone tell me if this is a solvable clue?
'Another could help you. (four letters), beginning with ‘c’ '

I'd guess at "clue" but would wait for another crossing letter.

because I'm often wrong...

Hi nodus1, I agree with BBM2 the answer looks as if it should be "cku" but if so it's neither the most robust nor cryptic possibility if you are looking for that clever "ah ha" moment.
Why not ask the excellent regular setters on the weekly "competitions" Clueless & Peer Review to treat it as such and parse (breakdown) their effort(s) allowing you to choose the most appropriate (I assume it has to be
"clue" clued for the plot. I'm sure the his of the ongoing
Peer Review, Les40, wouldn't mind you inserting an
"excuse-me" into the thread with a brief explanation and request to post submissions here.

Sorry I'm posting from my phone while on a train. A couple of typos cku should be "clue" and his should be host when referrimg to Les40.

Thanks to everyone who has responded. Much appreciated.

But I'm out of my depth, trying to write crossword clues.

Does this clue work any better? ('clue' is not the answer I was attempting to reach.)

'Fake policeman and conclusion of a journey. (four letters), beginning with ‘c’. ’

Hi again nodus1, "copy" ? Why not take up my suggestion and ask those that compose clues to set words on a regular basis? i imagine most, if not all, would proffer at least 1 "clue" apiece.
