Hello everyone I have just started trying to do cryptics. Am reading Moorey's "How to crack cryptic crosswords" so i understand the basics, anyway trying to solve my first ' easy' puzzle from bestforpuzzles daily cryptic and im lost already understanding the the first clue, "Major entertained by popular general" answer LARGE. I am still clueless? What am I missing? Thanks!

Major entertained by popu LAR GE neral

"entertained" is the containment indicator
