11a. Ordinary article in house. I have v?e?l?a. I want villa to be in there somewhere, but can't think of anything that would fit. BUT. My answer to 3d. = Charlotte Bronte may well be wrong so the L could be wrong.

Charlotte Bronte is correct - so yes, your "e" is wrong.

..........and "vanilla" is sometimes used for "boring", "bog-standard" etc. from the ubiquitous ice-cream flavour (unfairly, I think - real vanilla flavour is great!)

Am being especially dim today! All very obvious once it's explained! Thanks all.

Can you now help with my last 2. 14a. Cross, missing northern resort, which is s?a if my 15d is correct with alienate. It can't possibly be sea, surely??
