There may be such a word as 'sufuscs', Malone, but the definition of 'subfusc' is dark formal clotheS (plural) according to Chambers.

Sorry, I know it (subfuscs) exists in that form - apologies for calling it a plural noun rather than a verb.

Is there such a verb? again according to Chambers , subfusc appears to be either a noun or an adjective.
But we don't kn w that it or some version of it is the answer anyway, as the poster hasn't come back to us yet with the answer he's says he's found..
