Hard to give hints without answer but because there are more across clues than spaces the last letter of one across answer becomes the first of another.

You are not quite right with your assumption if I've understood you correctly.

The 6 letter word d????l so the l starts a new word. The clue for this one is the barely touching one- party in this clue is lib.

Li ends the row then the word continues on another row in the opposite direction.

Hi, all of you (if a bit late --- I just can't sleep).Glad to see you all discussing the Iq again --- for me it really has become one of the best puzzles around, together with EV. Thyis one took a long time to get started, but at the end real satisfaction. And no snobbery/exclusiveness in the discussions! I wish you all a very happy Easter.
