Over on 15squared the Indy solvers are complaining this clue being "too obscure" as an answer
"Jazzman understanding fast tempo". (6)

I would have thought that he was one of the most respected of British jazzmen.

Maybe they are all too young, or prefer classical. I enjoy both

Stan Kenton was American. I've just been listening to his "Opus In Chartreuse" with a tenor solo from Richie Kamuka - gorgeous!
