Home seems obvious but not sure or why

Hame - it can mean 'bar' and 'house'/home.

I suspect this is HAME, which is a bar which forms part of a harness and is also how the word "home" is pronounced in Scotland. There is a traditional song called "My Granny's Hieland Hame".
