What a long tale (?tail) about a rail. But, poor old me ... I seem to be the only person who can't see why 24a "bound to wind up with unmarried men" appears to be "enclose" E-C-O-E. Can someone explain please (or perhaps correct)?

Also, am I the only one to be puzzled about the return of the Saga cryptic.? The one in the March mag "£100 crossword" (p.150) seems to be on the scale of the old one - and it is "cryptic", yes, but much easier. Whereas the one on p.154 Cryptic Challenge ("it's back") seems fiendishly difficult like the old one used to be, but doesn't look anything like the same format. Or is it just printed smaller?

24 'Wind up' gives close, 'unmarried men' just means to take the 'm' for married off the word, so 'en'. En+close.

re Saga
The fiendish one is a smaller version, or different format which is what Katy said it would be

Thanks to ab, ginge and malone - I regard my AGM as now having been held! It was so obvious ... just one of those blank moments, I guess.

And thanks for the steer about Saga. Small is better than nothing ... and it still looks very challenging.
