22 Sailor's to drop off covering on rear of deck (5)

?aulk

I have two possible answers but can't parse either of them (and am keeping them to myself in case they're ludicrous!)

Yes caulk, which can also mean to snooze.

Thanks again, jazzgirl. Caulk was an answer I had in mind, but I couldn't link it with the 'sailor'.
