Cryptic Crossword Clue:
"Spare one of the crowd"
Solution:
EXTRA

I obviously get the straight definition portion of the clue: spare -> extra
But... I don't get the wordplay portion? Anybody help explain it to me? I'm VERY new to cryptics and this is from an "easy" cryptic crossword puzzle so it shouldn't be too obtuse..

An Extra is a crowd actor in a film or tv show.

Hi Mamya, Thanks for your reply. I do get that part of the answer... it's just that cryptics usually involve word play, as well. That's the part I'm missing...
i.e. "One gets nothing for it" -> Answer: TEN

the number 1 followed by a zero gives 10.
the other one is just known as a double degfinition.

I think it's simply a double definition.

Spare - Extra (in many senses)
One in a crowd - Extra

If there is more then I'm not seeing it.
