Gosh, thea - can you really see Denmark from Northumberland (or were you just looking towards it?)

Thanks for explaining GDs!

Love Northumberland - I've done a bit of cycling up there.

Hi chrise Yes looking in the right direction!!!!!
ESBERG due East.
When on the beach I am reminded of the oft stated fact that you can see the curvature of the earth by observing the horizon. In theory you could but practically its impossible!!!!!
There you go
All the best

We went to the highest point of La Palma (in the Canaries), and, from there, the horizon of sea does definitely look curved - reassuringly?

The canaries probably better in many ways than Denmark or even Northern beaches.
But consider......
If you had turned 360 degrees looking out to the changing horizon it would always appear at "eye-level" otherwise it would have had to appear to sink/dip below eyelevel --- which it don't!!

If you could get sufficiently high -- miles up--- so that you could see the whole 360deg horizon in one eyeful you would see a curvature. As astonauts do. But they don't SEE a sphere only the disc outline ( as we do the Moon)
.
I should get a life, I know.

All the best Thea

The summit is at nearly 8000ft - the sea is definitely curved!
