Hi rambler, without wishing to appear pedantic is it not a semi or partial &lit as it requires the addition of "who shows" to the wordplay?
Very nice clue nevertheless.

definitely agree with ginge on this one. the cryptic part(s) ' way to break law at entrance to ranch' would have to also serve as the definition to be a proper &Lit. that is my understanding of it.

I've never thought about the difference before but on further googling I see that you are correct and the i clue is a partial &lit. At least it's another tutorial for those who are interested!
