8 across in radio times x word 6 five letters ? ? ? O ? Clue is: Ask me to make second bird noise. I can only think of Whoop, but don't get the clue! Thanks for any help.

It's an American expression meaning "Go ahead and ask the question". The bird is most probably an owl.
