Thanks to earlier responses I am now down to about 10, mostly in the bottom right.

I'm hoping that assistance with one may spur my tired brain into more activity :

53A - Novel, reader admits, open rarely (5, 4, 2, 5)#
?O?R? D??? D? ??R??

I also have two I cannot get despite all the other letters being in place :
22D - Do out stable at last - dig and potter about (8)
?A?B?C?E BARBECUE?
&
28D - Plant expert with tip for gardener (4)
?C?R

Some or, indeed, all of these letters may be wrong.

Rossim & Mamya

Thanks, you are most kind - I never would have got 53A as I hadn't realized that was the name of the book involving Quasimodo. Obviously reading Les Mis failed to help.
