I have a completed grid but cannot follow
the instructions in the preamble regarding
the highlighting.

I have a name of the player and believe I
know his nickname.
My problem is that neither the man's name
of nickname is 15 letters as indicated in the
preamble.
What needs to be shaded?

Any help will be most welcome.

Hi Terry

The name of the player should be 15 letters and the letters to be shaded are in words where each letter in the answer cannot be accounted for by the clue.

If you need any more help just ask - I haven't got a copy in front of me at the moment

Thanks VP

I can see that the player is 15 letters. Where
I am confused is that the preamble states that
his nickname is 15 letters whereas I have his nickname as 11 letters - 3 & 8
Can you put me out of my misery please?

Hi Terry

The nickname is 6,2,7 but does not need to be shaded. When you were doing the clues you should have found that you couldn't account for all the letters in the answers.

For example the answer you should have at 38 across is AWAKEN. The definition was rouse, the 'a king' part of the clue is the AK, the French City is Caen and losing hundred leaves AEN so the extra letter W needs to be shaded. The W in the penultimate letter in the surname.

Hope this helps

It does indeed!

I was fixated on his nickname being 'The
Magician'!

Thanks for coming back as you promised.
