Is the second letter an L or i?
It could be side.

That's the second time in a couple of days that I've been thrown by the L/i problem.
I wonder if we should ask for the Posting Tips to include "To avoid ambiguity, please post lower case i and upper case L in partial solutions - for example ?i?L? would be "silly" (or not!)"

it's an i (copy and paste into google). i think jazzgirl worked out that peoples spellchecks don't like a single lowercase i.

Spellchecks seem to change them for you!
If we stuck to capitals there wouldn't be a problem.

Good point, trevor, but it would also be helpful if posters could be persuaded to use ? for missing letters, so it could be pasted directly into wordfinders such as Chambers.

Correct. I have my spellcheck off.
I am now suspicious of incoming clues with "l".

if it was down to me, the posting tips would advise the use of question marks and stop asking people to use spaces around the letters.

And posters will be posters!
Quite a few don't even think the clue is required!
