Thanks, syzzie! A bit more challenging than usual, I thought, and thoroughly enjoyable.

I agree entirely with aristo, even though I had to Google a couple for corroboration (still not 100% sure of the parsing in 1across), thanks very much syzygy. I really like 24 across.

"Peg" and "away" are clear, but I do think that "gets" is rather weak as a containment indicator.

Thanks for confirming my parsing aristo. Wasn't sure if it was something specific your side of the pond rather than a container. Even although I'm "familiarish" with your Football as it's fairly well covered on TV here (and I do like it and note the Pats have secured home field advantage throughout the playoffs assuming they keep winning) I'm at a complete loss with other sports so thankfully google came to the rescue re 10 across.

An Oakland player is an A, and the answer is indeed a one-word term for a baseball-game delay. The Patriots stadium is just a few miles from here; I try to stay at home when they're playing.

My site access problems have gotten even worse.

Thanks, Syzygy - enjoyed.

(A new word in the vocabulary from 26d, I rather like the sound of that one)
