Have just finished, but unsure of the parsing of 50a, 6d, 48a and 40a. Any help appreciated.

The clues would be appreciated too! Not everyone has a copy of the paper.

Fair point:
50a. Conference, say, a year back precedes show (6) - Appear

6d. mixed doubles - two rounds - begin in setting for Stade Roland Garros (4,2,8) - Bois de Boulogne

48a. Awful record releases the last two! (6) - Chronic

40a. Powerful in the air is right back (6) - Strong

40 The air= song, right = rt, S tr ong, powerful
6 D Involves an anagram, I think, but I didn't work it all all.

6 D. It's an anagram of 'doubles' and 'oo'(two rounds) and 'begin'.

48 awful : chronic
